Why is the Library Building closed in Fall 2024?

Library Renovations: Closure beginning September 9

The Library building will be closed from September 9 through December 15, 2024 for renovations. Renovations will include roof replacement and addition of solar panels. While the library building is closed, our library services will still be available to the college community. Librarians and library staff will be temporarily relocated to the Instructional Resource Center Learning Center (IRC 241), sharing space and services with the Department’s Learning Center Tutoring unit.

How will students be able to take out books/use library services while operations are altered?

Students, faculty, staff, and public users can request library materials they have found in our library catalog at http://middlesexcollege.edu/library by visiting the service desk in IRC 241 or completing the online form at https://tinyurl.com/MiddlesexCLibraryRetrieval.

  • For requests submitted by 4 PM, we will retrieve the items from the library within 2 business days and send an email with detailed instructions when the item is ready to be picked up.
  • Requests received after 4 PM will be retrieved with the following day’s requests.
  • Items requested on Fridays will be available by the following Tuesday.
  • Requested items will be held for pickup at the IRC service desk for up to three weeks.

Access to library databases and the ability to request materials from other libraries remain unaffected. Course materials that faculty have placed on Reserve for their students can be checked out for an hour at the IRC service desk without having to place a request in advance.

Students and faculty can work with our librarians by chat or in person in the IRC during our open hours. Questions sent to library@middlesexcc.edu during our off hours will be received on the next business day.  Our library events and activities, such as de-stress puzzles and crafts, Socrates Cafe, and book displays, will be available in IRC 241.

We will have fewer computers, but printing (both in B&W and color) and scanning will still be available. Because our total number of study rooms is reduced while we’re in IRC 241, we recommend other spaces across the college for students to study while the library building is closed.

We're glad that we are still able to offer all of our department's services in a revised format, and we appreciate everyone's patience while we relocate for this important Library construction project.

Please visit our relocation page for updates: https://middlesexcollege.libguides.com/libraryandtutoringservices/Fall2024TemporaryClosure or contact Marilyn N. Ochoa, Library Services Director, at mochoa@middlesexcc.edu for more information.  You can also follow the Library Services' social media accounts for ongoing information about the relocation. We'll keep you updated on resources like tutoring, technology, and tons of reading/viewing suggestions as well.

The Library Services Department is here for you! Just because we are relocated doesn't mean we aren't still dedicated to creating a collaborative, safe, judgement-free zone where everyone is welcome!
